The £600 lump sum merges two separate UK-wide initiatives: the £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme and the £200 Alternative Fuel Payment. This consolidated approach was designed specifically for Northern Ireland's distinct energy market, where an estimated 68% of households rely on alternative fuels like home heating oil. Officials determined that delivering two separate payments would be overly complex in this environment.

Distribution and Logistics

The payment will be administered in partnership with Northern Ireland's electricity suppliers. The majority of households will receive the £600 as an automatic credit on their electricity bills.
