Tata Mutual Fund fund manager Tapan Patel has suggested a commodity allocation led by gold, followed by silver and copper. His proposed mix assigns 50% to gold, 30% to silver and 20% to copper.
The allocation gives gold half of the proposed commodity exposure, while silver accounts for three-tenths and copper makes up the remaining one-fifth. The recommendation offers a clear split across the three commodities, although no further details on its implementation were provided.
Patel said increased capital expenditure on infrastructure linked to artificial intelligence, renewable energy, decarbonisation and electric vehicles may increase commodity demand over the longer term.
That view connects the outlook for commodities with investment in several infrastructure-related areas. It does not state that demand will rise immediately or provide a specific forecast for individual metals.
Patel’s comments place gold at the centre of the suggested allocation while maintaining exposure to silver and copper. The longer-term demand case is based on the potential effect of infrastructure spending associated with AI, renewables, decarbonisation and the EV trend.
The 50:30:20 framework is the key message from the fund manager’s view, alongside his expectation that these investment themes may support commodity demand over time.
