Meesho Shares Tumble 4% After Rs 900 Crore Block Deal Amid Conflicting Analyst Forecasts Shares of e-commerce firm Meesho fell 4% in the unlisted market after a signific...

Shares of e-commerce firm Meesho fell 4% in the unlisted market after a significant block deal valued at Rs 900 crore. The transaction has brought to light sharply divergent views from major financial institutions on the company’s valuation and long-term prospects, creating uncertainty for investors.
Brokerages including UBS and Ventura maintain a bullish outlook, issuing ‘buy’ ratings for the company. UBS projects Meesho will achieve profitability in fiscal year 2026, forecasting a robust 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenue between FY24 and FY28. Analysts point to the potential for operating leverage, improved take rates, and enhanced advertising monetization as key drivers. Similarly, Ventura anticipates a 22.5% revenue CAGR through FY27, highlighting the company’s asset-light, zero-commission model and its strong foothold in India’s Tier 2 cities as significant competitive advantages. Ventura also suggested Meesho’s shares are undervalued compared to its listed peers.
In stark contrast, CLSA has issued a ‘sell’ rating, casting doubt on the sustainability of Meesho’s business model. While acknowledging the company's impressive user growth and gross merchandise value (GMV), the firm is concerned about high cash burn rates and escalating customer acquisition costs. CLSA also noted that Meesho appears to be losing market share to established competitors like Flipkart, raising questions about its ability to maintain momentum in a highly competitive landscape.
The conflicting assessments underscore the central challenge facing Meesho: balancing aggressive growth with a sustainable financial strategy. The company’s success hinges on its ability to convert its large user base into a profitable enterprise without sacrificing its market position. The recent block deal and subsequent share price decline reflect the market’s sensitivity to these underlying tensions. For investors, the outlook remains dependent on whether the optimistic growth scenarios or the cautious concerns over cash burn and competition will define Meesho's future trajectory.
