Digital lending platform Moneyview, which is preparing for an initial public offering, has significantly revised its future profit projections downward after awarding a one-time incentive of Rs 160 crore ($19.2 million) to its co-founder and CEO, Puneet Agarwal.
The substantial payment was a pre-agreed bonus tied to a key performance metric. The incentive was triggered when the fintech firm's valuation reached $900 million during its Series E funding round in December 2022. That funding round was led by Apis Partners and brought the company's total capital raised to $219 million from investors including Tiger Global, Ribbit Capital, and Accel.
The direct financial consequence of this executive compensation is a considerable adjustment to the company's outlook. Moneyview has informed investors that its projected profit for the fiscal year 2026 is now expected to be approximately Rs 350 crore. This represents a 30% reduction from the earlier forecast of Rs 500 crore, a material change for a company heading towards the public markets.
This development comes despite the company's recent history of strong financial performance. Moneyview has been profitable for the past two consecutive years, reporting a net profit of Rs 163 crore in fiscal year 2023. For the current fiscal year 2024, the company projects revenues between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,600 crore, with profits anticipated to be around Rs 250 crore.
The move highlights the delicate balance for late-stage, pre-IPO companies between rewarding leadership for past successes and managing near-term financial metrics. The revised forecast will likely be a key point of scrutiny during its IPO roadshow, with potential investors weighing the one-time nature of the expense against the company's long-term earnings power and corporate governance practices.
