The officer, B.K. Singh, was placed under suspension in May 2023 for alleged misconduct.
The disciplinary action against DIG Singh was initiated after he allegedly published several posts on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The content reportedly included critical commentary on the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, drawing parallels to figures from the Mahabharata. His posts also touched upon politically sensitive topics, including the Adani-Hindenburg report, the wrestlers' protest, and the situation in Manipur.
The suspension was rooted in an alleged breach of Rule 11 of the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964. This regulation places restrictions on government servants from making statements of fact or opinion that could be seen as adverse criticism of any current or recent policy or action of the Central Government or a State Government. The officer's social media activity was considered a violation of these established service protocols.
Following periodic reviews of his suspension, the Ministry of Home Affairs, which serves as the cadre-controlling authority for the CRPF, issued the reinstatement order on June 18, 2024. While Singh has been brought back into service, his next posting has not yet been announced.
